Label KARO Swimwear will be presenting their latest collection at Palm Beach Swim Week 2015 today Friday, November 6th, 2015 at the Palm beach Photographic Centre.
We had a chance to interview them before the show and this is what they had to say!
[GITANA STYLING]: Tell us about your designs. What makes them unique?
[KARO]: The main philosophy of the brand is hand making jewelry and incorporating it into bikinis. By hand making I mean using earth treasures as natural precious and semi-precious stones as tiger eye, turquoise, fresh water pearls, amber, onyx, and many other beautiful jewels. Hand beading them and attaching them to beautiful bathing suits. Some bikinis are made with crystals and man-made jewels as well, but each design is very unique. The brand started as custom-made to fit customers to the smallest detail. Currently, we are working with manufacturers to be able to adjust some of the designs to market and place them into boutiques and stores, but the option of custom orders will remain to please customers.
[GS]: What inspires you as a designer?
[KARO]: As a designer, I create my pieces spontaneously after collecting fabrics with beautiful prints and stones or jewels. I’m inspired by the beauty of earthy stones that get polished or treated for us to be able to enjoy them as a part of jewelry or in this case as a bathing suit.
[GS]: Who do you design for?
[KARO]: The designs are made for women and lately, I came up with a new line of “beach boxers for men.” I believe that women, starting with teenagers and their moms, should find a bikini or one piece that can be custom-fitted for both of them. Some suits are on a more elegant and sophisticated note, some are funky and playful and have lots of color and contrast to definitely bring attention.
[GS]: What are we going to see from KARO at Palm Beach Swim Week?
[KARO]: For PBSW I’m bringing a huge combination of designs. I haven’t decided 100% which pieces will rock the runway, but I promise there will be a variety to please everyone. Again, I use lots of color and contrast to make them stand out.
[GS]: Where can people find your designs?
[KARO]: I have a website karoswimwear.com that has listed 4 collections for customers. “Itsy Bitsy Couture” is the first collection and has lots of detail and some really crazy pieces. My first and, I believe, my favorite collection. I used lots of beautiful stones. Next collection is “Beach is a Runway,” which is more a risky type of collection including some cool prints like one that looks like a newspaper and the design is one piece with cut-out shoulders and has some red contrasting jewels. “Online Boutique” collection is pretty much a combination of some of the other collections, but manufactured and are available to purchase without the wait. Those are pieces that are in stock and no need to wait 2-3 weeks to receive a custom-fit suit. Also there’s fitness wear and men’s beachwear also available.
[GS]: What’s next for KARO?
[KARO]: There’s many amazing ideas that are waiting in line to be created. The “Average Jane” line coming for 2016 will be created very shortly. Then I would love to expand to accessories, cover ups, etc. But I’m taking one thing at a time since I’m by myself and I can only do so much!
