Style Chat with Stylist Christine Ray

When I met Christine in person, she had this relaxing vibe and strong presence about her. The one you can find in the true artists of this world. After a few minutes and a brief introduction about what we both do, it was very easy to connect and talk fashion, music, life and more while we enjoyed a cup of coffee.

Christine Ray is a stylist, model and singer in Phoenix, Arizona. You might know her already for her fun and eclectic sense of style. Or perhaps, you have heard her sing with her band Neon at a crowded venue or major event in the Valley.

Christine started her styling business in response to the many women who constantly approached her at shows asking about her clothes, accessories and overall look. She offers her customers various styling services including Closet Renovation, Dress for a Special Event, Expert Packing for Travel and Bridal & Wedding Styling.

I invited Christine to have a Style Chat with us and this is what she had to say!

Gitana Styling: What is your definition of style?

Christine Ray: Celebrity stylist and designer, Rachel Zoe, says, “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.”  Although our clothing doesn’t by any means define us, it can allow us to express our point of view and give others a tiny glimpse of that – how we view ourselves and how we view the world.

GS: Who is your favorite designer?

CR: This is an impossible question. It’s like asking me to choose a favorite song or favorite flower when there is so much creativity and beauty. I admire many different designers for different reasons, but in this moment I love what Alessandro Michele is doing with Gucci.

GS: Who are your top 3 style icons?

CR: Audrey Hepburn, for her classic simplicity and elegance. Rachel Zoe, for her vintage sensibility and wearing fur in L.A. in the summertime. Bianca Jagger, for being the embodiment of 70’s and Studio 54 fashion.

GS: Share 3 style tips with us.

CR: Proportions are important. Be aware of where your clothes are cutting your body in order to elongate your frame. Layer – not just in the winter. Take a simple t-shirt and jeans and add a light scarf or statement jewelry, pair with a bold shoe and the right handbag and you have an outfit. Accessories can make all the difference. Be observant. I am constantly drawing inspiration from people I see on the street, in movies, where I travel. You can find ideas to enhance your own style from anywhere.

GS: If you feel like your outfit is missing something, what is your #1 style upgrader?

CR: Right now I’m obsessed with my black boyfriend blazer. I think it instantly adds a touch of tailored sophistication and menswear chic to any outfit. I could wear it every day.

GS: What are you currently working on?

CR: I’m currently focusing on clients who want to get more out of the wardrobe they already own. Shopping is fun and I will always recommend wardrobe staples or stand out pieces to invest in. But I really enjoy showing my clients creative ways they can use the pieces they already have in their closet to make interesting and varied outfits for any occasion.

GS: How can our readers connect with you?

CR: My website, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
