Style Chat with Designer Sharon Tatem

Sharon Tatem designs 100% silk scarves. She considers her pieces wearable art, which can be worn with your most elegant dress or with jeans and a t-shirt. Her designs have bright colors and they promise to give you lots of compliments. Sharon says all her scarves will remain in your wardrobe for a long time because they are unique, classic and they will always be in style.

We invited Sharon to have a Style Chat with us and this is what she had to say!

By the way, Sharon Tatem Silk Scarves has been extremely kind and is offering all Gitana Styling readers a 20% off discount. You can visit her Etsy store and use the code FASHION to get 20% off your purchase.

Gitana Styling: What is your definition of style?

Sharon Tatem: Style is your conversation before you speak, your message, your power and your individual self. Finding your own style is self empowerment.

GS: Who is your favorite designer?

ST: Stella McCartney has a great line to her collection. She is always first with an idea and it seems everyone follows. Mary Katrantzou is involved in printing fabric for her styles and using Elizabethan style with a modern take and her own prints. Lily Pulitzer ( I love her story of making it on Palm Beach from her colorful shift collection and turning the brand into a worldwide colorful Palm Beach Statement).

GS: Who are your top 3 style icons?

ST: I love Harper’s Bazaar and its Editor Glenda Bailey. She knows style and her magazine reflects it (High Style). Carrie Bradshaw, although ficticious, the clothes and shoes she wore are still relevant. Throwback: Katherine Hepburn. Ballsy, sophisticated and ahead of her time.

GS: Share 3 style tips with us.

ST: Your fashion cannot be complete if you don’t add accessories. I always wear layers such as jackets to get real style. Awesome shoes can change your mood. Wearing a silk scarf by Sharon Tatem Silk Scarves makes you feel powerful. The silk is so soft to the touch and wonderful to swing and play with. You will see how others around you respond to you. If you have a thing for hats, like I do, wearing a big hat can change everything you feel about yourself and turn a dull day into a hat day. Girls love to play dress up and hats, scarves and shoes will let you have grownup dress-up days.

GS: If you feel like your outfit is missing something, what is your #1 style upgrader?

ST: STScarves Sharon Tatem Silk Scarves make any outfit pop. New shoes and a big hat.

GS: What are you currently working on?

ST: I am presently working on a new line of silk scarves, online sales and planning for a show.  I painted one of the models from fashion fusion swim week. I have attached a photo of the painting. I will then take the painting and make it a scarf. Then the model who wore it in the show will wear it in the next show.
