7 Top Excuses For Not Looking Your Best

Throughout the years while working with talent on television and now with women in the real world, there has been a constant when it comes to looking stylish. The women who consider their image to be important, take care of themselves when they select their clothing, hairstyle and make-up. Some over-achievers – I love over-achievers – also take care of their physique, nails, shoes (yes, shoes is a category on its own) and more! These women are generally more productive, happy and confident.

What I’ve seen with women who don’t pay attention to their appearance is they are not happy, their self-esteem is low and each of them has a story to tell regarding “why” they can’t look great. I have to be clear about this: it all comes down to excuses. It may sound harsh, but if we want to be honest – and I do – they all end up being excuses.

Excuses are justifications we tell ourselves to feel a little better (within our misery) about our decision. The truth of the matter is women who take care of their image feel good about themselves the majority of the time (because we all have our days of course) than the women who don’t. Even if a woman is not satisfied with her weight, calves, dark spots, acne, you name it, she still feels good about herself when she puts effort in her appearance. And just to be clear, this does not mean waking up at 6 a.m. instead of 8 a.m. to get ready – Maybe at 7 a.m. or 7:30 a.m. if you are a pro.

So, I ask you: what is your excuse?

After hearing endless excuses, these are the top 7 I’ve heard the most.

They are all “justifications” in my book.

1. “Oh I have such a hectic life. I don’t have time for anything!”

2. “My kids take all of my attention. If I start doing something they immediately jump in and I have to stop what I’m doing.”

3. “My problem is that when I go to the mall, I never find anything that fits.”

4. “I just don’t have the money to go spend millions on my appearance, you know?”

5. “I don’t have sense of style.”

6. “I’m too old to keep up with the trends and put that kind of effort. My time has passed.”

7. “Style is for skinny people.”

Do any of these or several of these sound familiar? Believe me, you can justify it as much as you want. I know you can make it happen if you want. So do something about it. Get the help you need. You are a beauty and you deserve to look your best. Why not?
