7 Things I Learned in 2016

Hi Beautiful! Thank you for being here and for reading this special post. I want to wrap up the year with some things I learned this 2016. Those that made all the difference in my personal and professional life. There were specific tips, teachings and inspirations that made a mark on me this year; And as I plan my goals for 2017, I reflect on the impact they had in my life and I want to share them with you in case you need to hear them too.

Here are the 7 things that changed everything…

7 things that changed everything for me this 2016... Click To Tweet

Lesson #1: Say “no” when you want to say “no”

Nothing good has ever come out of saying yes to something you don’t really want to do. Now I’m not talking about not washing the dishes or taking the trash out – although you can and should take breaks and get everyone on board, so they get to do it too. I’m talking about doing an event, agreeing to be part of a project, taking on a client you know is problematic, etc. Even before you say yes, everything around you starts to look bad and every little thing just adds on to the misery of having said yes. Say “no,” “no, thank you,” “no, thank you. It’s not for me” and say “yes” to the projects that make you happy, that fit your lifestyle and business goals, that make you want to go overboard because you love it so much!

Say no when you want to say no

Lesson #2: Take care of yourself no matter what

You’ve been working like crazy, you still have tons of things to do and you are so tired, you can’t think, you start to get irritated. Take a break! Whatever you are working on, if it is under these conditions, it is going to be bad. You have to stop and take care of yourself. Take a nice bath, have a conversation with someone you love, have some tea or do nothing for 30 minutes or 1 hour. Then when you are good to go, do it. The end product is going to be so much better and you will be happy about it!

Lesson #3: Yes you have to make sacrifices, but there is a thin line between compromise and “no way Jose”

When working with a group of people there are so many points of views, ideas, behaviors, etc to deal with and yes you have to compromise because the show must go on, but you have to stay true to your values, your audience, your services and know when you have to draw the line or step out. You know the line has been crossed, when you hear an idea that makes you cringe. You know what I’m talking about!

Lesson #4: You can do it!

Anything you set your mind to, you can do it. You have tons of ideas every day, pick the ones that excite you the most. It doesn’t matter if they seem weird or no one has ever done it before. You can do it. There is nothing more exciting and fulfilling that going with your idea, going on the ride and seeing what happens. I’ve set myself many goals this year (lots of things sounded weird, but they made me happy and made sense in my mind) and a lot of them brought lots of beautiful things and teachings into my life.

You can do it

Lesson #5: Less is more. Start doing less, but well (please!)

Do not kill yourself. Set up a schedule, decide in advance what you will focus on and be the best you can be in those areas. That is the fastest way to stand out and monetize your efforts. No one is known for doing a hundred thousand things well. Even Oprah (who is AMAZING) has her niche. She does millions of things, but with the same goal, the same approach, producing excellent results.

Lesson #6: Failures are always wins

Some projects, ideas or plans don’t produce the results we want. Some of them just flop. Instead of feeling down, embarrassed and hopeless, figure out why they didn’t work. Those lessons will put you ahead of the curve next time you start a new project. You don’t want to experience the same results again, so learn from them and take the next step. If you see every experience under these lens, you will always be ahead.

If you do 1 thing per day to move ahead, you will be 365 steps ahead at the end of the year Click To Tweet

Lesson #7: If you do 1 thing per day to move ahead, you will be 365 steps ahead at the end of the year

We try to do so many things every day. We dismiss “living” as one of them. To give you an example, I used to plan my day without adding to my schedule the regular things in life like cooking, eating, washing clothes, taking a shower, reading the latest book I bought and the list goes on and on. As soon as I started including these things in my schedule I started to do them every day and feel the anxiety go away. Last year, I felt a lot of anxiety as I worked. This year, everything changed. I was in the flow. Work happened, taking care of my house happened, hanging out with my husband happened and I enjoyed my year with little anxiety, more joy and fulfillment. Moving to Arizona where the pace is slower also helped a lot! I still go through days of complete madness. I’m human lol, but I live more and I’m excited to do so many things!

I can keep going, but I think these 7 things made the biggest difference!

I hope you find answers to your questions in some of these and if you have any questions or comments, please share them below. I’ll be happy to hear what you learned this year, if any of these happened to you, if you are going to adopt any of these for 2017!

Happy New Year

I also want to take a moment to wish you a Happy New Year! I hope the new year bring you lots of joy, health, abundance and love into your life and those around you. That your dreams and goals are powered by the energy of the new year and that you keep the momentum going until you accomplish everything you want!
