It feels like is getting hotter and hotter every day, at least here in Arizona. I speak to my family who are in Miami, Florida on a daily basis and they say the same thing. As you know, we still have a couple of months before temperatures fall. If you are struggling with what to wear to work this summer, the following five pieces will help you get through it with ease and in style.
The Hip Length Vest
Replace your blazers and coats with a hip length vest. Don’t think of it as a vest, think of it as jacket. This will allow you to incorporate it in many more outfits. Sometimes we get pieces because they are different and interesting and then they end up in our closets forever without being used. When we change our perspective about the piece, like in this case think of it as a jacket, everything can change. All of the sudden, it can go with anything and everything.
Outfit ideas include:
Vest + undershirt + skinny pants + bootie sandals
Vest + dressy shirt + trousers + ankle-strap sandals
Vest + matching color structured top + culottes + ankle-strap sandals
Vest + classic LBD (little black dress) + peep toe or scrappy sandals
Vest + skinny pants + undershirt + pointy flats + waist belt
Look for silk trousers with fun patterns this summer and think of them as neutrals. You can wear silk trousers over and over again in different ways.
Here are some ideas:
Trouser + camisole + vest + ankle-strap sandals
Trouser + silk top + white jacket + pointy pumps
Trouser + knit top + stray sandals
Switch your black blazer for a white jacket. Think skirts, pants, dresses with a white jacket. You can wear your black blazer next fall.
It’s summer and you can wear a floral dress to the office. Just make sure the dress you buy is classic, structured and has the appropriate length (right over the knee or right below it). Since this kind of dress is very summery, pair it with pieces that say “business.” Pieces that will go well with a floral dress include pointy heels, blazer and thick leather belt. A great idea or tip is to buy a floral dress with sleeves.
Colorful Silk Scarf
Nothing like feeling the softness of silk against your skin. Wear a silk scarf as a neck scarf, to add color to a classic handbag or to through on top of your favorite top.
